A short history
After a life threatening illness in 2002 Garth Murray, who is co-owner with his wife Stephanie, incurred a brain injury. After this traumatic experience he started having very vivid dreams, sometimes while still awake. In one of those dreams he saw the S3 and all of the relevant dimensions. In a later dream he saw the M5 and the name of the company. In one further dream he observed some materials that were used inside the speakers.
In March 2005 as a result of the dreams Theophany Loudspeakers was established. Since that time the models have improved as we have learnt more and more about varying aspects of speaker construction and design. Very quickly Garth’s background in Aircraft technology and airflow characteristics allowed them to develop product that performed far beyond expectations.
Our philosophy has never been focused solely around standard speaker construction theory. While we do believe in the many advancements that our competitors have made we have found that some key and quite critical areas are often neglected. Accordingly we have chosen to focus on several very specific areas of design. Namely elimination of Harmonic distortion in both the drivers and the cabinets, aerodynamic airflow and time alignment. When coupled with the amazing driver and crossover technology that has been developed in the last few years Theophany loudspeakers have developed a significant following around the world. All of which improve the overall listening experience to a point of near reality.
These efforts have not gone unrewarded. We have had many favourable magazine reviews both here in New Zealand and overseas. We have also been awarded several business awards including Champion Canterbury Business of the Year, Producer Manufacturer, Small Enterprise 2008, an award which we are very proud of.
Our clientele is continuing to grow as we market our product both in New Zealand and internationally with markets continuing to grow in Australasia, Russia, USA, Europe and the Middle East. We are looking to move into markets in Asia over the coming year.
Our goal is that our clients not only have an enjoyable listening experience but that they have a truly emotional experience that they will not easily forget.
