Kratos
This is our Psuche Kratos subwoofer. Psuche means soul and Kratos means power or dominion.
While a subwoofer is only used sparingly when it is required it must
have the power and dominion to bring a movie to life. We have
specifically designed this model to pair with the Psuche Kardia if you
are wanting to build a high spec home theatre. It can also be used with
most other systems.
We utilise a high power low distortion 12" woofer on the front and pair
it with the matching 12" passive radiator on the top. The angle that the
two are set at is critical. It allows us to eliminate a lot of phase
problems that can develop with this configuration.
The beauty of this setup is that the bass is very tight, fast and powerful. Significantly better than most ported subwoofers.
The Psuche Kratos has a 500w digital amplifier with phase and frequency
controls and features both high and low inputs although we do not
normally need a subwoofer with our main speakers so generally recommend
using the low power input.
As you can see the form is very aerodynamic. This eliminates standing
waves both inside and outside the speaker. Standing waves are turbulent
air pockets that occur around and inside square speakers. When they
occur the flow of clean air and with it clean sound is impeded. Because
we have gone to such lengths to eliminate the standing waves, efficiency
and tight bass is much improved.
The cabinets are made from a special laminate made for us by custom wood
just north of Christchurch. They are formed under extreme pressure and
at moderate temperature in such away that they can not flex like a
typical flat sided speaker. Cabinet resonance is virtually eliminated.
This is very important as that resonance can destroy the emotive
listening experience.
We produce the Psuche Kratos In a range of finishes but can on request
finish a pair to your own specifications where ever you are in the
world.
